Unleashing Readers review

In anticipation of the Morris Awards, Unleashing Readers had these nice things to say about TCAB. Thank you!!

Interview in Hypertext Magazine

The lovely and talented Christine Rice, who was a teacher of mine at Columbia College Chicago, recently interviewed me for Hypertext Magazine, a great publication that she founded and that I’ve had the pleasure of contributing to several times since its inception in 2010.

Forever Young Adult names The Carnival at Bray a Best Book of 2014

I loved FYA’s hilarious, insightful review of TCAB. And now they’ve named it a best book of 2014! What an honor!

The Carnival at Bray named to YALSA’s Best Fiction for Young Adults 2014 List

The Young Adult Library Services Association has named The Carnival at Bray to its BFYA 2014 list! Exciting stuff!

Chicago Reader names The Carnival at Bray a favorite book of 2014

The Chicago Reader recently named The Carnival at Bray a favorite book of 2014! I love the Reader for many reasons, one of which is that they  published the original draft of the novel (when it was still a short story) in their 2010 fiction issue.  They also published another one of my short stories, “Teen Jeopardy,” the following year.

This year, I had the very cool job of judging the winners of the 2014 Chicago Reader Fiction contest. Stories will be published in January. Stay tuned!

Carnival at Bray Shortlisted for William C. Morris Award

More great news today from YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association). The Carnival at Bray has been named a finalist for the William C. Morris Award, an annual award given to debut YA novels! Thank you thank you to everyone for your support! Winner will be announced in Chicago February 2, 2015.

Carnival at Bray named a Best Book of 2014 by Kirkus Reviews

Excited to announce that The Carnival at Bray was named by Kirkus as a Best Book of 2014–in four separate categories! BEST TEEN LOVE STORIES, BEST TEEN REALISM, BEST TEEN BOOKS THAT EXPLORE THE TIES THAT BIND, and (and this is somewhat depressing, considering I still think the 90’s just happened) BEST TEEN BOOKS THAT’LL SEND READERS TRAVELLING THROUGH TIME. Thanks to all who have read, bought, and reviewed the novel. It means so much to me.

Interview with DNAinfo

In this interview with Heather Cherone, the northwest side reporter for DNAinfo Chicago, I talk about writing, teaching, and the surreal experience of a dream coming true:
